The Sacramento Kings first round draft choice made his first public appearance in the Capital City this morning, and he's being called a "rags to riches" story
Ben McLemore knows hard times. Money was tight when was he was a child and access to meals and hot water was sometimes limited, but it didn't stop the St. Louis native from excelling on the basketball court.
Playing at three different high schools before setting the freshman scoring record at the University of Kansas, McLemore's character impressed Kings owner Vivek Ranadive as much as his playing skills.
"This is the ultimate David versus Goliath story, and in many ways, the Sacramento story was a David versus Goliath story and we prevailed," Ranadive said.
And McLemore is staying humble, even as his skills and hard work bring financial rewards that will improve his life and the lives of his family. McLemore is just happy to have the opportunity to come to Sacramento and rebuild something great, he said.
McLemore has never even been to an NBA game -- meaning his first experience will come in uniform!
