CALIFORNIA- The number of violent and property crimes in California inched up last year, but crime rates are still half as high as those seen 20 years ago.

The "Crime in California" report from Attorney General Kamala Harris shows homicides, rapes, robberies and assaults were up three percent while burglaries, vehicle thefts and larceny increased by more than seven percent. The yearly report is based on data from police and sheriff's departments in all of the state's 58 counties.

Attorney General Kamala Harris is out with her annual "Crime in California" report which shows 160 thousand violent crimes in 2012, up nearly three percent from the year before. That figure includes crimes such as homicides, rapes, robberies and assaults, while numbers taken from police and sheriff's departments show burglaries, vehicle thefts and larceny increased by more than seven percent.

These increases come after a steady decline statewide since 2006, but the AG says we're still well below rates seen twenty years ago. The report does provide ammunition to the opponents of Governor Browns realignment plan, who have criticized early releases.
