An Inland Empire woman and three firefighters are recovering after they were attacked by thousands of killer bees.
CalFire officials say a Palm Desert woman suffered 1,000 stings when she was swarmed by the bees inside her gated community Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters responding to the scene also were stung by the insects during the rescue.
The 71-year-old victim remains in the hospital but is expected to survive.
Authorities say the bees had swarmed inside a metal box holding equipment for a phone company before attacking the woman.
