The drought in California is getting worse for more people in more places.

As of the report, one-quarter of California is now categorized as being in an "exceptional drought," the most severe of the U.S. Drought Monitor categories.

Another 73 percent of the state is in the less severe "extreme drought category."

The Department of Water Resources surveyors say as of Thursday, the storms this week have only added two inches to the statewide snowpack.

"We only went from 22 percent of average for the snow-water equivalent a couple of days ago, up to 24 percent statewide," DWR spokesman Doug Carlson said.

He says water conservation is still the way to go.
