Car salesman Cal Worthington, whose TV commercials featuring his "dog Spot" became a staple of televisions all over the West Coast, has died.
Worthington's lawyers say the 92-year-old passed away yesterday while watching football at his ranch in the Northern California town of Orland.
Worthington's start in the car dealership business began with a small lot in Texas and ended with an empire that did billions of dollars in business. The Oklahoma native had numerous car dealerships west of the Mississippi and became known for his wacky TV commercials that featured his "dog Spot," and usually another animal like a tiger, a bear, a hippo or a gorilla.
Worthington also wrote the jingle that accompanied his commercials that ended with the phrase "Go See Cal!"
