Major League Soccer will certainly have some options if league officials bring a franchise to the Sacramento area.  Elk Grove is putting in a serious bid.

City officials in Elk Grove say Major League Soccer representatives next month will take a look at the property on the southside of the city where a soccer stadium could be built.

The mayor and city manager announcing the visit less than 24 hours after the City Council approved the funding for the purchase this week.

MLS officials, who will tour possible stadium sites in Sacramento, including the downtown railyard, aren't commenting on the Elk Grove announcement.

The private investment group working to bring soccer to Elk Grove, including former California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, is echoing the mayor's comments.
