Charges could be filed against the man suspected of setting the Rim Fire.

The Tuolumne County district attorney says federal prosecutors are going to pursue the man suspected of starting the Rim Fire.

His runaway campfire allegedly started the wildfire that raged through Yosemite National Park and the Sierra Foothills earlier this year.

District Attorney Michael Knowles let the cat out of the bag, saying federal prosecutors had privately declared their intention to prosecute the hunter's illegal campfire in the Stanislaus National Forest that got out of control, becoming one of the largest fires on record in California.

The hunter's name has still not been released out of concern for his safety. State officials have estimated damages exceed $54 million.
