Glove Legislation May Be Repealed

State lawmakers may give a hand to the restaurant industry, by backtracking on a controversial glove law.

Assemblyman Richard Pan authored a measure that prohibits bare-hand contact between restaurant workers and bartenders and food that's ready to eat. Just a few months after the governor signed it, he's looking to have it repealed.

The Democrat says he's received a number of complaints and has heard about petition drives and now wants to let local health departments regulate kitchen cleanliness.

The idea here was to encourage healthy food prep, but chefs had plenty of issues.

They say it's hard to salt meat with gloves or prepare sushi properly. What's more, there was worry the gloves would actually pose an increased risk -- you're swapping frequent hand-washing for gloves that would just get more and more contaminated over time.
