Heavy Winds Cause Damage, Take Lives in Northern California
Posted November 22nd, 2013 @ 6:54pm by KFBK News

The recent winds have toppled trees and branches and left messes of leaves throughout the region.

In Nevada County, a house was destroyed by a falling pine tree.

The 100-foot-tall tree smashed into the house between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Friday as the woman who was renting the house was taking her children to school.

The tree ignited a small fire after landing in a wood stove at the house on Winding Way on Valley View Drive.

No one was injured in this case, however the wind hasn't been as kind to others.

Three people have been killed in Northern California as the high winds knocked out power to thousands of residents in the region.

Westward, two died in Oakland and the third was killed by a falling tree to the Northeast in Yuba County.

Strong winds continued throughout Friday.
