High-tech leaders from Silicon Valley were in Sacramento today to kick off a week long series of "innovation" conferences with lawmakers. Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom gave the keynote, saying a lot has changed over the last few years.
"Twitter was a sound, the cloud was in the sky, 4G was a parking space, LinkedIn -- a prison, apps were the things you filled out to get into Sacramento State," he said.
He touched on the multiple problems that have plagued state computer upgrades and actually gave his speech inside the Secretary of State's Office -- which still uses paper forms.
Newsom says technology's role should be to open up government and encourage more civic participation.
