As Danea Horn was about to embark on a book tour for her book about living with kidney disease, she learned her kidneys had failed and she needed a transplant. Against incredible odds, the matching donor turned out to be her husband, Sacramento Kings Vice President Phillip Horn.
"To have a match, not in my blood relative, in my husband, is just miraculous. We just feel extremely blessed," she said.
It's a fairybook story come true for Danea Horn -- one that's part of an extraordinary year for her husband, an executive with the Kings.
"Not only from a personal standpoint, but just from a work standpoint, it's a busy time of year. Certainly for us here at the Kings with a couple weeks to go before our first pre-season game," Philip Horn said.
Their life affirming transplant operation is set for the first week in October. And in February, the team will hold a “Kings Donate Life Night,” to help raise awareness of the critical need for organ and tissue donors.
