Ronald Russell thought he had the perfect plan. "Rent-to-Own" was the name of a real estate program that promised to purchase homes for those under financial hardships. For an initial fee of $2,900 Russell would rent the home to a participant and eventually sell it with the promise of a refund if not satisfied.
District Attorney Jan Scully announced today that Ronald Russell was convicted by a jury of 49 felony counts of grand theft and two misdemeanor counts of petty theft. Not one participate ever obtained a home, 51 victims in all gave Russell a total of $139,000. Sentencing is scheduled for April 25th.
