SACRAMENTO -- Mercy Medical Group is celebrating the announcement of the opening of the new Mercy Multiple Sclerosis Achievement Center in Sacramento, the first in Northern California.
Former Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo, who has been living with disease, was on hand to celebrate.
She says this will give people who are in an advanced stage of MS "a place to go, a place to learn about MS, a place to learn how to deal with their symptoms, a place to socialize, and a day off for their care givers."
Dr. John Schafer, the Director of Mercy's MS Center, says this is "a huge accomplishment and will fill a big hole in our commitment to taking care of people with multiple sclerosis."
The center is being developed thanks to an $890,000 grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
The doors will open in Decemeber.
