NASA Video Shows Sun's Surface

While the naked eye can't see the surface of the sun, that doesn't stop the instruments aboard NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory from capturing stunning views.

New video shows "coronal loops" shooting off the surface of the sun, and was taken over a two-day period earlier this month. Coronal looops are arcs of plasma that surge along the sun's magnetic field lines. Oftentimes, the loops are larger than the entire Earth.

NASA reports the loops can last for days or even weeks. The loops reach about 1.8 million degrees.

The video was taken in extreme ultraviolet light, according to NASA.
