No New Bids on Downtown Arena

Sacramento city leaders want to move to suspend bid requirements on construction of the new downtown arena.

The Sacramento Bee is reporting that in a memo to the city council, city staffers said competitive-bid procedures would make it impossible to meet the current construction schedule.

The building at Downtown Plaza is supposed to open in 2016. The council will be asked to vote on the proposal next Tuesday. A 2/3 super-majority is needed to suspend the bid rules.
