DUI checkpoints will be scattered around the Sacramento area starting Thursday for the Independence Day weekend.

Police will be setting up maximum security checkpoints starting at 6 p.m. and will go on throughout the night until around 2 am.

There were 56 deaths and over a thousand DUI's cases occuring statewide during the Independence Day celebrations last year.

Make sure you have a designated driver or a safe way home this 4th of July weekend.

DUI tickets can result in jail time, large fines and put your life and others' in danger.
