The U.S. women's hockey team lost to their arch rival Team Canada in today's gold medal match 3-2.

There was no score in the first period, as the two rivals played a pretty even match. The U.S. led 1-0 in the second period. Team USA scored again in the first few minutes of the third period, giving the U.S. a 2-0 lead.

With about 3 minutes left in the third period, Team Canada finally put a score on the board.

Tensions were very high between the teams in the last few minutes.

Then, with about one minute left, Canada scored again. The score was tied 2-2. They scored two goals in the last 3.5 minutes.

At the end of regulation time, the game was tied 2-2. There was an intermission before the teams went into a sudden death over time.

About five minutes into the overtime period, Canada was hit with a penalty, giving the Americans a 2 minute power play.

That power play, however, was cut short when Team USA had a penalty.

Then Canada was given a power play opportunity, in a controversial call, that some said should have led to a penalty shot for Canada.

But it didn't matter, Canada scored. Team USA suffered a devastating loss.

Team USA will still receive silver medals.

The Americans lost to Canada 2-0 in the gold medal game four years ago in the Vancouver games.

The U.S. also lost 3-2 to Canada in group play last week.
