Some good news and bad news coming out about California's cash numbers.

State Controller John Chiang has announced that revenues for the month totaled $12.2 billion, surpassing estimates in the 2014-15 Governor's Budget by 3.3 percent.

Controller Chiang says most of this came from better-than-expected tax receipts, especially those coming from paychecks.

He says that could indicate that Californians are working and earning more.

The state still has a $12.6 billion deficit. But that is down a little over $3 billion from January of last year.
