Surviving Breast Cancer with Amy Lewis

New breast cancer statistics show that the incidences in black women has almost become even with the incidences in white women.

Some of the new information is considered a little unexpected. Carol DeSantis -- with the American Cancer Society -- says one of the few surprises is that the cancer-rate for black women and white women is about the same now.

"That is really driven by an increase in incidence in Africa-American women," DeSantis said.

Statistics show the rate of breast cancer among white women is holding steady -- about one in eight get the disease in their lifetime.
She says the mortality rate -- NOT surviving breast-cancer -- is higher among African-American women. The key to survival, she says, is detecting the breast-cancer early.
