UC Hospital Worker Strike Called Off
Posted Monday, March 24th 2014 @ 2pm  by KFBK News

Workers from University of California hospitals across the state are not going on strike today, as originally planned.

The five-day walkout, which would have involved as many as 13,000 workers, has been called off after weekend negotiations resulted in a new tentative contract.

"I would call it a balanced agreement. I would also call it a step forward for our top priority, which is to improve the safety and the staffing levels in UC Hospitals," Todd Stenhouse said.

Stenhouse is with the union American Federation of State, County And Municipal Employees, which represents these patient care technical workers.

He says the tentative agreement also includes wage increases and secure benefits.

Union and UC officials call it a "compromise."  It's expected to be ratified later this week.
