UPDATE as of 5:04PM:

The gunman involved in another mass shooting incident at Fort Hood is reported dead.

NBC News is reporting the shooter was wearing a military uniform.

At least 14 people are reported wounded, and unconfirmed reports indicate three of them may have died.

The base remains on lockdown until further notice.

A security guard at Ft. Hood spoke with NBC affiliate KCEN near Waco, Tx about the massive response to the shooting.

Bell County Sheriff's Office Lt. Donnie Adams says the sheriff's office dispatched deputies and troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety to the nearby Texas Army base.

Several people were injured in a shooting at a medical support building around 4:30 p.m., KCEN-TV reported.

Fort Hood confirmed on Twitter that "an incident" has taken place.

The 1st Calvary Division, which is based at Fort Hood, sent a Twitter alert telling people on base to close doors and stay away from windows.

There are close to two dozen ambulances and dozens of police cars at the scene.

CNN is reporting that the suspect is dead from self-inflicted gunshots.

Witnesses said a gunman opened fire and they heard about 20 shots fired as soldiers ran for their lives, jumping over fences.

President Obama has been informed.

A spokeswoman for the base declined to comment.

Fort Hood was the site of a shooting in 2009 that left 13 people dead and 30 people injured. In that case, an Army Major named Nidal Hasan opened fire on troops.
