Will the Gov't Shut Down to Avoid Health Care Mandate?

The U.S Chamber of Commerce is urging Congress to avoid risking a government shutdown or federal default in an effort to stop implementation of mandated health care. Local leaders don't think it's the best idea, either.

While saying the Affordable Care Act has problems and entitlement spending needs to be addressed, the BIG business lobby believes it would be counter-productive to create a crisis to force action.

But would local businesses be affected?

"The Sacramento Metro Chamber doesn't have a position on the Health Care Reform Act, but I can assure you that I don't think anybody's purposes are going to be constructively served by a shutdown in government," Chamber President Roger Niello said.

Niello thinks if government agencies are forced to shut down Oct. 1, business owners would be wise to take a look at how much their partners rely on government contracts, know what the risks are, and manage cash accordingly.
